As a journalist, I get to see many people that are having a hard time, that are suffering. Since it is my job to report and to tell their stories, I listen, I write but then I leave. They often ask me if I can do something to help them, which is a dilemma, because most of the time I cannot do anything or would it not be ethical as a journalist to give them money for instance.
When the opportunity came to run 15 kilometer for the Deep Poverty Network, it was a good moment to do something back. This solidarity and research network is supporting the most vulnerable in society. For them, there is almost no way out of poverty; deep poverty is something the children of people in deep poverty inherit.
The Deep Poverty Network tries to break through this cycle. They try to make visible these unsustainable conditions, initiate a debate on poverty as a human rights violation and offer support of basic needs. Because many people in deep poverty are even struggling to do groceries. The pandemic made the situation even worse, with many unable to work or losing their job. With the recent increase in prices and the bad state of the Turkish economy these problems will only grow bigger.
This is what the network can do with your donation:
Baby and child solidarity card: Average monthly cost of diapers, baby formula and basic needs for children in a household: 300 TRY or 30 euro
Small household solidarity package: Average monthly cost of a family of four or less including basic food, fruit, vegetables and basic health-care products: 450 TRY or 45 euro
Large household solidarity package: Average monthly cost of a family of more than five people, including basic food, fruit, vegetables and basic health-care products: 600 TRY or 60 euro
Dear friends, I hope you can support me running for hope with the Deep Poverty Network so we can support as many families as possible!
