Hi people,
In 1999, Turkey experienced one of the most impactful earthquakes in its history. I was also a victim of it. A lucky one obviously.
After getting out of our severely damaged building, the very first things I could see through the dust were people scurrying around, horribly wounded bodies, ruined buildings, cars, souls and hopes in the echoes of those screaming to seek some help under or over the rubbles, and other things that a kid should not encounter. Just to visualise...
Unfortunately, a more serious instance of this has recently occurred in Turkey. More than 50,000 people (as of March 2023) were officially reported dead based on two consecutive impactful earthquakes on 6th of Feb that hit 10 cities.
I made a visit to the earthquake region lately (March 2023) to provide some support and make a personal journey to my childhood. There are thousands of kids out there who need our support, not only financially but also mentally. Luckily, TED is providing both. I would like to thank TED for their great efforts and for their campaign to support earthquake victims. Now, I believe it is my turn to contribute and I would be grateful if you could please join me to grow this initiative.
Warmest regards,
Koray Dagdeviren
